Is Pearl Wax Really Painless? We have tested!

I have started to see hard wax beans called Pearl wax Instagram with all these claims about how painless these are, so I let my leg hair grow out for a month to see if Pearl wax really worked.

I asked my amazing colleague Joanna to make a video about when I tried Pearl wax for the first time, and as you can see on mine face, I did not find it 100% painless. But it wasn't too bad either, so keep reading to find out how it all went!

      My super hairy legs!

My legs do not get so super hairy so I grew it out for a month so I could get a good chunk to work with.

To get rid of the hair on my legs, I have always just shaved them. When I was younger, I tried Nair, but I hated the smell and promised never to do it again. Since then I have not waxed my legs but I have waxed my bikini lines for several years now. It hurts a lot but the pain can still be managed. I was not sure what to expect from this Pearl wax method, but I strongly doubted that it would be painless.

So how do these Pearl wax work?

You pour some of these into a wax pot and heat them until they melt. You need to make sure that the consistency is like honey, not too watery. On the left is a picture of the wax beans before they are melted, and on the right they look after they have been heated.

Once it melted, I felt a little on my finger to make sure it was not too hot.

To apply the wax, I used these "applicator sticks", which are basically just some fancy popsicle sticks. The instructions say to apply the wax in the same direction as yours hair grow and let it sit until dry.

      Apply Pearl wax evenly

I noticed that it is difficult to apply a fine, even layer of wax. Not sure if it's a formula problem or a coordination problem.

Still, I could get the wax on quite easily and did not feel too hot. To ensure that it is not too hot, I recommend that you let the wax melt on high heat and then turn the heat down to medium for a minute or so before applying it.

The consistency became a bit stiff for me after I put it on medium for a while, but I just turned it back on for a few seconds and everything was fine.

Once it has dried, pull the wax in the direction of the hair. Since the wax is not in a super even layer, I have to slowly pull a little from the ends first to get a good tab.

But once I got a good tab, I could grab it and quickly tear off the rest. It did not hurt and was a million times less painful than a bikini wax. You can see my little hairs attached to the strip if you look closely!

FYI: Pulling after a tab probably hurts the most because when you pull slowly, hairs are pulled out one by one.

Here is my leg with over 20 wax strips and about 45 minutes later. It definitely made a difference, but it took way too long.

Get rid of the small pieces…

To remove the small pieces of pearl wax, you just exfoliate the shower after you've waxed, they fall right off.

Here are the wax strips for just one leg, and this is not even all. The whole process was a bit long for me and the dividend was not something exceptional.

        Wax

Besides, not even all my leg hair disappeared at all. I went over some areas two and three times, and there were still small hairs left.

(Let's all pretend we don 't see how I need a new manicure.)

I waxed my left leg and shaved my right to compare. The shaved leg actually felt softer and I was able to get it all off hair in less than five minutes.

        Pearl wax

For me, shaving is easier and that's probably what I will stick to because I do not see any major benefit from waxing my legs. The advantage is perhaps that the hair becomes finer and slower over time, as with a bikini wax? If this is the case now and it is an advantage that someone seems to be worth it, I recommend that they get their legs professionally waxed as it would probably be much easier and much faster.

        Alternatives to waxing?

The alternative is to use IPL laser for permanent hair removal so you can get rid of your hair for good.

Overall, I do not think I want to start using Pearl wax in my beauty routine because it takes too long and not at all effective.

If you are like me and all that is required is that you inflict as little pain on yourself as possible, waxing your own body hair may not be for you.

But if you are the tough guy and have a decent pain tolerance, you might want to give it a try. The key is definitely to let it RIP!

The first time I tested it, I peeled off the whole strip, little by little, instead of tearing it. The initial pull to get a tab hurt so much that I thought it would make it worse than tearing it. But in fact it is the opposite. Do not throw yourself off for the first few seconds when it feels like someone is pointing at your leg with small needles. You will hardly feel any of it when you rip.

Pearl wax is worth it if…

          • You want to spend a lot of time taking care of your legs.
          • Or absolutely hate shaving.
          • You do not want to spend money on razors every week. (There's a lot of Pearl wax in the bag, so it'll probably last forever!)
          • Do not want to invest in a IPL laser for permanent hair removal

Pearl wax is not worth it if…

          • You have a very low pain tolerance.
          • Or do not have an hour or more to spend on your legs.
          • You want completely smooth legs with no marks hair.

Overall, I would say that Pearl wax mostly lives up to its painless claims, but the time it takes to do it all, so this is not worth it to me.
